The growing popularity of the web has brought about many questions of where to go and how to get the best results. Many sites have found to be helpful for all around searches where as some are more tailored for a particular media. No matter what you are looking for there is a site that can appeal to everyone’s needs.

When searching to do this hub one could get confused in fact there are many sites out there to find the best search engines, the most used, the highest ranked and so on. So I comprised my list on what I have to be helpful for myself and I find they tend to be the most used. Some names may not sound familiar but they are worth a try to see what you may find with them and if they appeal to you more than what you currently use.

Google

Of course by now if you have done any searching online you have either used google or stumbled upon it for some reason. Google in fact is ranked the #1 search engine and is increasing in it’s popularity now with the PPC program for businesses. Most of us use Google Adsense which places ads on your blog or website and allows you to earn money from people clicking on their ads. Analytic this is a service that is customizable to track your traffic to your sites or blogs. Keyword tool which assists you in finding the best keywords to insert in your articles, websites, or blogs. Google remains at the top for their limitless abilities.

Clusty(or Yippy)

This search engine gathers information from various different sources to give a cluster of results. Some of the sites they gather information from are Ask, Bing, and Yahoo. Very nice appearance of the website it is fail proof in that their homepage is similar to Google’s and results are given with a tab to the left to choose 3 options to narrow the results. First you can look at the home tab which is cloud and the results are listed upon categories. Second is the tab sources which lists by the gathering site. Lastly, is the sites tab which classify the results by the website extension such as com, org, net, edu, etc.

Dogpile

Dogpile as well uses other larger search engine to combine their results known as meta search engine. At this time they get their results from sites like Google, Yahoo, MSN Search, Ask , About, Bing, MIVA, LookSmart, and more. With several search options on the above tabs you can jump easily to their white or yellow pages, news or current videos. Nothing fancy with the way the results are placed it is all about keywords in Dogpile.

Answers

Wow what can I say about Answers that is not self explanatory, if this is a place you have not visited you are missing out. Type in a question, get an answer; how easy is that. Plus the results you get are multifaceted as well. You get related answers, ads and videos. Other people’s questions and answers are listed in case you have a similar situation. You can link right up with Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and their own blog.

Ask

Also another great search engine very easy to use and the results are easily obtained. Once you have submitted your question or search words the answers are also listed in tabs. The tab options are images, news, videos, maps, Q&A, and more. Each tab has classified results pertaining to the words you have searched.

Yahoo

Multi tasking search engine is what you see in Yahoo. It is a search engine, subject directory and web portal. They use their own database so their results are not fed from another site. I could spend a lot of time on Yahoo because this is like one stop shop: maps, e-mail, searches, news, finance, auto shopper and the list goes on.

Complete Planet

Not another search engine; but this is not a typical engine, if you have not used this site you must try it out. They too power their own web portal although quite invisible it is reliable and fast. Very easy to use interface and options galore, including typing in your keywords or searching through their many categories hoping to stumble onto what you are looking for. Results are listed by relevance of your search words as well as when it was placed on the web.

USA.gov

Formerly known as FirstGov.gov is all about government issues that you may have an interest in and are classified for easy surfing. You can connect with them as well through Facebook and Twitter (which is common practice today), find government agencies, search a keyword or a topic.

Technorati

At last a blog searcher and Technorati is born. It’s appearance is very green and looks like a blog. Although I have not been able to find my blog? Of course that can be my fault since blogging is new for me I may have not listed it right. One last kick for Technorati is you can write for them as well small current event blog posts.

Isohunt

This is a little different and confusing type of search engine in that it allows Peer to Peer transfer of files. It does not host the files only assists in finding the files. For example if you are searching for movie downloads type in movies and you will get a vast amount of replies from information that users have placed on the web freely. You can alter the results to make it relevant for you and hopefully you find what you are looking for.

That is it to the top ten most useful search engines. If you have not visited some or all of these sites it is worth a try to better optimize your search options. Most of what goes on in our world today is based around the net and is increasing by the day therefore it is time to find your niche in the market.
